Rivers irrigate, sanitize and enrich territories. However, they were considered only through a fluid mechanics scope for too long. Today, new ecological and social considerations lead territories into taking a fresh look at their river and imagining other uses, other functions : wildlife enrichment, flood management through vegetal engineering, support of cultural programming, touristic or even seaside tourism development, etc. With this new relationship to water, new relationships to the city and new social relations emerge on embankments and beaches.
